IPMS Richmond Present:

The 2009 Old Dominion Open

Scale Model Show and Contest

February 21, 2009

At the Richmond International Raceway Complex

Armor Model Entries:

AMPS Central VA

AMPS Central Virginia will be assisting the show by judging all armor entries using the judging rules administered by AMPS. The system scores all entries individually based on strict criteria and awards Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals to those meeting the score brackets. Skill levels of Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced exist to allow modelers with different experiences to be judged accordingly. Want to know more? See the AMPS website, or download the Judging Forms from the column to the upper right.

Activities During the Day:

  • Raffle drawings made throughout the day
  • Make-n-Take model program for young and new modelers
  • Real Armor & Auto vehicles on site for photo shoots
  • Food vendor on location for lunch and snacks

Special Awards:

  • Best In Show: Best model/subject in the show selected by the category head judges.
  • Best of Awards: Junior Entry, Aircraft, Armor, Automobiles, Figure, Maritime, Diorama, and Space/Sci-Fi Subject.
  • What's Inside? Special Theme Award: We have created two special themed categories in Aircraft and Auto. They are all about the best interior. This category will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards. All the standard contest rules and judging criteria are in effect, however, special attention will be focused on the interiors of aircraft cockpits (including the canopies) and car interiors (passenger area). This also includes Cockpit/Passenger area only models.
  • Out-of-Box Awards: This year is new, in that we dropped our traditional OOB for each category, and added several OOB categories. We think this will be a great way for those that have more than one of a particular model to enter in more than one category.

Contest Categories:

This show will feature 52 different categories to enter your models. The complete listing can be found in the show flyer, available for download in the "Download Contest Forms" section of this page.

Trophy Sponsorship:

Sponsorships really helps us to provide you with the best one day show in the Region. We are very appreciative of any trophy package sponsorship. We even accept donations. We will have a list of sponsors and donors on prominent display at our show. Trophy packages are $25 (1st, 2nd, and 3rd). Sponsorships will also be recognized at our awards ceremony. Please contact for more info.

Vendors:

We welcome all modeling related vendors and hope you will be a part of our show. Vendor tables are available on a first come first serve basis at the still low price of $25 per table. Please contact for more info.

Raffle:

This part of our show is a highlight, but its success truly depends on individual and vendor donations to make it work. Please consider submitting unopened quality kits, books and or accessories to our Raffle Chairman. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated and go towards the purchase of kits/accessories to even out the selection of raffle items.
