May 2011 Meeting:
Twenty-nine attended the May meeting. We were joined by long-time member, but infrequent visitor Bob Walls. Briefings were exchanged regarding the NOVA Model Classic and upcoming HobbyTown USA display. View the display models that night at this Gallery page.
April 2011 Meeting:
Attendance was a bit lower than typical, but we still had eleven models in various stages for display. We conducted a friendly, open discussion to decide whether we should pursue hosting an IPMS National convention. The vote afterwards was a confirmed "Nay." We also discussed the recently completed AMPS International Convention, hosted by the AMPS/IPMS Central Virginia chapter, several members of which are also members of IPMS Richmond. It was a military vehicle only model show with real vehicle tours, modeling and historical seminars, vendors and of course display models that were judged for Gold, Silver and Bronze medal awards. It took place in Fredericksburg at the same site that IPMS Richmond held the 2010 Region 2 Convention. Just over 500 models were entered for competition. View the display models that night at this Gallery page.
March 2011 Meeting:
We had twenty-three in attendance, with Ed Stiefvater and Steve Dillenger visiting with us. The 2012 ODO planning is underway, and Mark Elder announced that we would likely hold it again at the Richmond International Raceway complex, but that negotiations were still in play. View the display models that night at this Gallery page.
February 2011 Meeting:
We had twenty-two in attendance, with Mike Jenkins, formerly from Baton Rouge, LA visiting with us. We discussed setting up a model display at the Hobby Town USA store on West Broad Street. Mark Elder was appointed to be chairman of the 2012 Old Dominion Open, IPMS Richmond's signature modeling show. View the display models that night at this Gallery page.
January 2011 Meeting:
Our first full meeting at the Smoketree Community Building was well attended. John Kimbriel transferred the command of the raffle regiment to Mike Lyons, and look for enhancements to the raffle this year. A proposal to consider hosting an IPMS National convention was suggested and will be discussed in upcoming months. Glen Martin demonstrated a weathering technique that uses tiny dots of artists' oil paint. View the display models that night at this Gallery page.
December 2010 Meeting:
The Fourth Quarter contest was held with the special theme of "Best British/American Car". George Honeycutt took home the theme trophy for his 1949 Mercury. By member vote, the new meeting place for IPMS Richmond will be the Smoketree Community Building. View the contest models that night at this Gallery page. The chapter contest results are:
November 2010 Meeting:
Another meeting site was visited, this time at Westhampton Baptist Church. Discussions began with the IPMS Region 2 Convention that had just concluded a couple of weeks before. Initial responses have been positive and we all felt fortunate that we put on one of the best R2 Conventions. Now we take a break from contests in 2011 but we plan to return in 2012. Chapter elections were held, with Glen Martin retaining the presidency, as did Alex Valz and Mark Elder, for the Treasurer and Secretary, respectively. Joe Paulchell was ushered in as the new vice-president. Milton Conkle was thanked for serving several years and he regretted the fact that his job schedule will prevent him from attending regularly. View the display models that night at this Gallery page.
October 2010 Meeting:
The twenty five members were treated to a cookout and met in the Smoketree Community Building. Afterwards a bring a build was held for those that wanted to stay a few more hours. Chapter officer nominations were taken with an election to occur next month. A last-minute briefing on the IPMS Region 2 Convention coming in just days was given. Glen Martin, active IPMS Region 2 Coordinator, announced he would be resigning effective at the conclusion of the 2010 Region 2 Convention. Glen's put in many long hours serving our R2 chapters while still somehow finding time to write articles, perform demonstrations and finish models on his workbench. Glen, we thank you for your role as R2 Coordinator! Glen also announced the winners of the R2 annual awards. Chapter of the year went to IPMS Northern VA Modelers. The Newsletter of the year was IPMS New Jersey's "Mosquitogram", and the Webmaster was your's truly, John Robinson. March 2010 Meeting:
Tonight's centered around another successful Old Dominion Open. Our attendance was about equal as last year, despite bad weather North of Virginia. Our next contest will be hosting the IPMS Region II Convention in Fredericksburg, VA on October 15-16. Find out more on our convention website. The First Quarter contest was held with the special theme of Science Fiction. Glen Martin won the honors with his Nosferatu figure. Something about those eyes... View the contest models that night at this Gallery page.
February 2010 Meeting:
This last meeting before the 2010 Old Dominion Open was used to firm up final details and canvass the membership for volunteers. Previous snowstorms during the last two weeks kept attendance at lower levels than normal. Glen Martin conducted a demonstration on using the Microscale system to apply decals. Following this method is almost guaranteed to produce realistic markings. Look for this demo to appear on our Resources page in the future. View the display models that night at this Gallery page.
January 2010 Meeting:
Glen Martin gaveled his first meeting of his new term and in a new building, the VA Science Museum. We had not see Bruce in many years due to his health complications. A reminder was issued that our 2010 meeting place would be in the VA Science Museum. View the display models that night at this Gallery page.
October 2009 Meeting:
The 26 in attendance were given the quarterly financial report by Treasurer Alex Valz and an IPMS Region II Convention report by Glen Martin. Future floor wax seals everything and creates a crystal clear shine. View the display models that night at this Gallery page.
July 2009 Meeting:
The big news at this meeting was the announcement that IPMS Richmond had won the Virginia Shootout that was held in Roanoke recently. This was a friendly idea that started twelve years ago to encourage the Virginia IPMS chapters to come out to each other's shows. Points are awarded based on number of contestants with bonuses for placing in the winner's circle at the end of the show. It was our first win, and we won it big, leaving the others in the dust. We have possession of the plaque, which is engraved with all the previous winning chapters. We'll hang onto it for a year until the next Shootout in 2010. Congratulations to all who participated and enjoyed the show! View the display models that night at this Gallery page.

At this meeting a big decision was made via membership vote. The motion passed 21 to 9 to make a bid for the IPMS Region 2 Regional Show in 2010. Our ODO team will be on board, as well as show chair Ashley Abernathy to make a bid worthy of the Region.
